Reversed Advent Calendar

This year we are supporting our local food bank

with our Reversed Advent Calendar

Each Christmas at TheGivingMachine we like to do something special to celebrate the count down to Christmas. In the past this has often been a competition for our supporters to win prizes for themselves and donations for the causes close to their heart.

We have loved running these competitions but this year we wanted to do something a little different and decided to count down to Christmas with an advent calendar. Instead of taking out a treat each day, we are creating a reversed advent calendar and will be filling boxes with essential items and on Christmas Eve we will donate these parcels to our local food bank to be distributed to those who need it.

Week 1

It has been an exciting first week of our reversed advent calendar and it is great to see the items building up. Our team have loved getting involved with this charitable idea and have been keen to add items each day. What we love the most is knowing the difference these items will make to the people receiving them.

Week 2

The excitement continues as we go into the second week of our reversed advent calendar. This week we have added more essential items to our food bank parcels including some vegan produce which can sometimes be overlooked and is always gratefully received at food banks. We have got another week and a half to go before we deliver these items, I wonder how many boxes we can manage to fill!

Week 3

It's week three of our reversed advent calendar and it is great to see the collection of essential items growing. We are very grateful to our amazing team here at TheGivingMachine and our wonderful trustees for donating items to this collection. This week as well as food and toiletries we've also added items of clothing to be donated to our local food bank.

Week 4 coming soon...

How you can get involved...

If you would like to get involved and support your local food bank, you can drop off essential items to them. Look up your local food bank and check their opening times. They are always keen to receive items and these are the items they have told us they really need:

Tinned meat and fish,Tinned vegetables, Tinned fruit, Baked beans, Soup, UHT milk, Cereal, Tea, Coffee, Juice, Pasta, Rice, Biscuits, Crisps, Crackers, Jam/Marmalade, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Sanitary items, Soap, Flannel/Sponge, Toilet paper, Showergel, Shampoo, Conditioner and Pet food.

Some food banks also take clothes and household items.
