Exciting Opportunities

TheGivingMachine is an award winning charity who have a mission to provide opportunities for all good causes to be able to access regular, unrestricted funds to ensure their sustainable future.

TheGivingMachine was founded in 2006 by four Hertfordshire Dads who agreed to use their different business skills to benefit charities and schools rather than profits for shareholders.

Since the start, every new team member who has joined has had a passion to support the good causes that are part of our “Giving” nation.

At TheGivingMachine, we are often looking for wonderful new team members to join our Giving community.

TheGivingMachine is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds and experiences.

These are the roles we currently have available.

Trustee

Could you be our next trustee or advisor?

We are looking to recruit several advisors and at least one new trustee to add to our current board’s skills and experience as well as replace trustees reaching their maximum terms over the next few years. We want to ensure that our Board better reflects the diversity of those who belong to the communities that we support and so we particularly welcome interest and applications from underrepresented communities.

This could be your first Trustee or Advisory role, or you could already have some experience as a Trustee or Advisor. We have a full induction process, ongoing training, and a mentor scheme to support you through your first years. You will have the opportunity to develop new skills and knowledge of the charity sector through participating in the work of our Board. Specific skill/experience areas that would help us as we grow would be:

Essential (these are our core values):
Passion - you love to make a difference and it shows in your experience
Proactive - you enjoy reviewing / improving ways of doing things
A Safe Pair of Hands - you are reliable and dependable without supervision for actions you agree to
Great Team Player - you work well with others in order to achieve a common goal and contribute to a positive, inclusive working environment wherever you are
Continuous learning - you are willing and able to learn new skills and applications to work effectively with others

Preferable (any of the following):
Individual Giving experience with a medium / large charity
Human resource / employee engagement experience
Charity corporate sponsorship / partnership experience
Connections/experience in media/PR in local or national arenas

What can we offer you?

You would be joining an experienced team of business and community leaders who have a passion to make a difference to our own communities and beyond. You would be making valuable connections, making new friends, gaining referenceable experience and participating in the governance of a national charity. While Trusteeship and advisory roles are voluntary, reasonable out of pocket expenses can be reimbursed.

What is the commitment?
Trustees:

Our board members have developed a strong, friendly but professional relationship with each other. We meet for 2.5 hours on a quarterly basis with the expectation that board papers have been read and members are ready to discuss key points and agree actions.
As we are a small charity, we only have one sub-committee for Finance Operations and they also meet for 2 hours quarterly about 2 weeks prior to the Board meetings.
There are likely to be a few ad-hoc phone calls and discussions via email/WhatsApp between meetings depending on issues that may arise.
We also have a twice yearly strategy and social events in person for a few hours in the Bishop’s Stortford area.
Trustees would be expected to participate in all board meetings with Advisors supporting work in between Board meetings at a similar time expectation.

Board meetings take place in Bishop’s Stortford and while there is a preference for everyone to be in-person, we know that this is not always possible and so Zoom can be used when needed.

Advisors:

We would expect that a couple of meetings per quarter would take place either online or in person to support the CEO and Board in areas of your relevant expertise. This would be customised around our needs and yours and would be regularly reviewed.

How to Apply:

Please contact us for an application pack that gives you more details about the expectations. join-us@thegivingmachine.co.uk

The Process:

We will assess each application on its own merits and arrange interviews as needed. Since we want to appoint advisors as well as trustees, the current openings may be amended as time progresses.

Minute Taker

Can you help us with our board minutes?

We're seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a volunteer minute taker. This role is vital to our board meetings, ensuring every detail is accurately recorded for future reference. As a minute taker, you'll be responsible for documenting discussions, decisions, and action items that emerge during these meetings. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to our organisation's success and help us impact more good causes. We look forward to welcoming a new volunteer who can help our board function more efficiently.
